By a Staff Reporter

Kathmandu – Nepal National Women’s Football team head coach Kumar Thapa mentioned that Nepal’s major goal is to keep the trophy home amidst a pre-match press conference at Kathmandu on Monday.

“Firstly, I would like to thank SAFF for organizing the SAFF Women’s Championship here in Nepal again. I am happy to have all seven SARCC Nations in the championship. I would like to welcome Pakistan,” said head coach Thapa. “We have been training for 7 weeks. I believe we have a balanced team combined with senior/experienced players and newcomers. Their fusion will be fruitful and I assure everyone that we will display the best football,” Thapa added.

Likewise, the newly appointed skipper of the Women’s Football team Anjila Tumbapo Subba stated that she holds a dream of winning a gold medal under her captainship and she believes she can achieve that in this SAFF Championship.

“Before getting into the matter, I would like to extend my gratitude towards my team, coaches, and ANFA for finding me as a capable candidate for the role of captain. I definitely will work hard to make sure their trust doesn’t go into vain,” Subba stated.

“As every captain dreams to win gold under their captaincy, I too dream the same. I don’t know whether others believe in us or not, but our whole team believes in each other which is our great strength. We are here to win and we will win. We are Gorkhali and we will fight till the end,” Subba added.

SAFF Women’s Championship 2022 is kicking off on 6th September (tomorrow). Hosts Nepal will see off Bhutan in the opener. Youth and Sports Minister Hon. Maheshwar Ghatraj will officially inaugurate the championship at Dashrath Rangasala.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals. The final is scheduled for 19th September. AP1 TV will broadcast the live stream of the championship.
