Manchester United and Tottenham through to semis

Manchester United claimed a scrappy 2-0 win over Everton at a bitterly cold Goodison Park on Wednesday, Edinson Cavani and Anthony Martial scored late goals to secure a place in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, Tottenham beat Stoke city 3-1 and qualified for the semi-final. Thanks to goals from Gareth Bale, Ben Davies, and Harry Kane.
In the opening stages, United missed several chances. And often the play was dire on both sides as the game seemed to be heading for penalties. The second half had none of the first’s spark.

Both sides misplacing passes in the third attack. And neither keeper had a significant save to make until Olsen picked the ball for Cavani’s opener out of his net. Cavani picked up the ball on the right-wing, skipped on his left foot inside, and fired past Everton goalkeeper Robin Olsen in the 88th minute.

With practically the last kick of the game, Martial added a second as the visitors are now meeting City for a place in the April 25 final.
Gareth Bale flicked in a cute 22nd-minute header from a Harry Winks cross and made it 1-0. The Premier League side completely dominated the first half and took a deserved lead. It was Bale’s third goal since returning from Real Madrid on loan to Tottenham.

In the second half, Stoke brought scowls to Mourinho’s face with an equalizer by Jordan Thompson. However, Tottenham weathered the mini-storm to regain their lead. With a fine low shot, Ben Davies from outside the area in the 70th made it 2-1. Kane, predictably, blasted in the 81st minute from close range into the top of the net. Tottenham will meet Brentford in the semi-final on Jan 5th.
