Madan Bhandari Cup Basketball Tournament Commences

Kathmandu – The Madan Bhandari Cup Basketball Tournament, organized by the Madan Bhandari Sports Academy, commenced on Monday at the Kritipur Covered Hall.

The opening day witnessed intense competition, with four teams emerging victorious: Times International Club, Xavier International College, Golden Gate International College, and Budhanilkantha Basketball Club.

In the inaugural match of the tournament, Times International Club showcased their skills by outplaying Dream Team with a final score of 67-45. Suraj Khadgi of Times exhibited exceptional performance, scoring 20 points, and was deservedly awarded the Player of the Match title.

The second match of the day witnessed Xavier International College defeating Bajra College by a narrow margin of 68-63. Bikram Khadka’s impressive performance earned him the Player of the Match accolade. In the day’s third match, Golden Gate International College emerged victorious, securing a thrilling 72-69 win over Royal.

Adding to the excitement, Budhanilkantha Basketball Club triumphed over Nakhipot Youth Club with a convincing scoreline of 70-52 in the last match of the first day.

With these wins, the victorious teams have advanced to the next round of the tournament, while the defeated teams have unfortunately been eliminated from further contention.

The Madan Bhandari Cup Basketball Tournament, scheduled to be held from May 29th to June 9th, holds a substantial prize pool. The winners of the tournament will be rewarded with NRs. 150,000, while the runners-up will receive NRs. 50,000. Notably, the cash prizes for both the men’s and women’s categories are equal.

The men’s tournament will feature qualifying rounds to determine the teams that will participate in the round-robin format, culminating in the finals. In contrast, the women’s category will directly enter the round-robin stage, leading up to the finals.
