Mighty India beat Netherlands by 57 runs in an ongoing ICC T20 World Cup to atop Group B of Super Twelve with 4 points in bag.
India, who won the toss and decided to bat first, collected 179 runs in the scheduled 20 overs losing 2 wickets at Sydney Cricket Ground in Australia. India’s star performer Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 62 runs off 44 deliveries with 3 fours and 2 sixers.
Captain Rohit Sharma added 53 runs off 39 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixers. Paul van Meekeren sent off opener Kannur Lokesh Rahul with 9 runs off 12 deliveries. Middle-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten for 51 runs off 25 balls.
Netherlands failed to chase a winning target of 180 runs as they scored 123 runs expending 9 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. Tim Pringle collected the highest run of 20 off 15 deliveries for Netherlands.
While Shariz Ahamad and Paul van Meekeren remained unbeaten for 16 and 14 runs, Vikramjit Singh, Max O’Dowd, Bas de Leede, Colin Ackermann, Tom Cooper, Scott Edwards, and Logan van Beek found their way back to the dugout for 1, 16, 16, 17, 9, 5, 3 and 16 runs. Fred Klaassen failed to add any runs as he got out by Arshdeep Singh in the first ball he faced.
India defeated Pakistan by 4 wickets in their first match. India will now take on South Africa on Sunday. Beating South Africa will almost guarantee their semi-finals spot. Netherlands lost to Bangladesh by 9 runs in their first match. The Netherlands will now play against Pakistan on Sunday.
