Henry and Shearer inducted in Hall of Fame

Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry have been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame. Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer, with 260 goals for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United.

Shearer won the championship with Blackburn Rovers in 1995. Meanwhile, in 258 appearances for Arsenal, Henry set a club record of 175 Premier League goals. He set a record for becoming the league’s leading scorer four times in a season.

“When you look at some of the unbelievable players to have graced the Premier League – week in, week out, year in, year out – I feel very honoured to join the Hall of Fame,” said 50-year-old Shearer, who moved from Southampton to Blackburn before the Premier League era began in 1992-93.

“I have to thank all of my team-mates, as well as the managers and coaches that I’ve worked with. Meanwhile Henry shared his happiness by saying “To be inducted alongside Alan Shearer as the two first inductees into the Premier League Hall of Fame is more than special”. “When I was young, I was just trying to make sure I could get a pair of boots and now we’re talking about the Hall of Fame”.

“During my career I wanted to play hard and make sure I was fighting for the cause, because that’s all the fans want to see.”

Along with Shearer and Henry, a shortlist of 23 other candidates qualifying for induction into the Class of 2021 will be announced soon, with fans voting on which six will be inducted this year.
