Kathmandu – Gurung Magar (GM Society) Nawalpur clinched the title of Late Binaya Pant Memorial Cup Park Men’s Volleyball Tournament on Saturday at the training center of Dhorpatan Sports Club at New Bus Park defeating Genex Volleyball Team in straight sets of 2-0.
Genex gave a tough fight in the first set to GM Society. However, it lost by 25-23. Likewise in the second set, GM effortlessly defeated Genex by 25-12.
Title contender Galkot Volleyball Association lost to Budhanilkantha Volleyball Club by 2-1 and became the second runner-up of the tournament. After losing the first set by 23-25, Budhanilkanth managed to come back in the next two sets by 25-23 and 15-11.
Champions GM Society bagged Rs. 50,000 along with a trophy, medals, and a certificate. Genex who came second pursed Rs. 30,000 and the second runner-up Budhanilkantha received Rs. 20,000 along with a trophy, medal, and a certificate. Likewise, Galkot who concluded the tournament fourth was rewarded with Rs. 10,000.
Ghanshyam Chaudhary of GM society was declared the best player in the tournament. He received an attractive gift hamper along with Rs.2,000. Likewise, GM Samaj’s Bibash Ale was named the best setter, GM’s Ashok Shrestha was awarded the best server, Genex’s Bishnu Basnet was named the best spiker, GM’s Himal Sunari was named best blocker, Budhanilkanth’s Sanjiv Gurung was named best defender and GM’s Dhiraj Pratap Gaha was chosen as the best coach of the tournament.
Budhanilkanth’s Sanjay Basnet was rewarded with the emerging player and Galkot’s Deepak Malla Thakuri was announced as the disciplined player of the tournament. They received Rs. 1000 each with a certificate.
Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA) Vice President Nirose Maskey, Secretary Manvir Chantyal, Gandaki Province Volleyball Association President Nabin Kumar Gurung, Late Binaya Pant’s brothers’ trio Santosh Pant, Bijay Pant, and Ramchandra Pant, Jhamk Shrestha of Tiptop Help Nepal Sports Club, International Volleyball Referee Bikas Gurung, Chirayu National Hospital Marketing Head Kiran Phuyal and organizer Kathmandu Kings Club President Anchal Shahi distributed the awards.
