Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) President Chatur Bahadur Chand and Acting Secretary Prashant Bikram Malla are flying towards Birmingham, England to participate in the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday morning.
The AGM is scheduled to be held on July 26. Meanwhile the formal programs will commence from July 23. ODI recognition will be the main agenda to put forward in the ICC AGM. ‘The official program is planned from 23 to 27 July. The Annual General Meeting is on 26th July. In the interval, there are various programs. We are prepared to discuss on various issues including Associate Nation, ODI and so on’, said Prashant.
It is not decided on how to take on the ODI recognition as of now. After the completion of the AGM, a genuine opinion about ODI recognition will be disclosed. In the meantime, Nepal will also discuss regarding the development of Nepalese Cricket with the Chairman of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly and Honorary Secretary Jai Shah.
Ganguly is a former exceptional Indian Cricket player and widely known as one among the successful cricketers. Jai Shah is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). CAN also informed that it had a productive discussion with Ganguly a few days earlier.
Nepal is prepared to make a proposal on ICC AGM in regards to giving continuity to the 7 countries currently competing in the World Cup League 2 ODI and to add two more teams to it. ‘We have good plans. Let’s hope there will be some fruitful achievements. Agenda on ODI recognition will be our topmost priority. We have already submitted our agenda to the ICC stating to add two more countries in the existing seven that are currently in the World Cup League 2 ODI without backing any. Let’s hope things go as per our plans’, said Prashant.
Nepal is currently competing in World Cup League-2 Tri-series ODI. The top three teams of the competition’s points table will then compete in the ODI World Cup qualifiers to be held in Zimbabwe in July. The remaining four teams will have to face the playoffs. It is not yet revealed on how and which team will get the ODI recognition. It will be declared after the AGM. Nepal is at the bottom of World Cup League-2 Tri-series ODI points table with 17 points in the bag from 20 matches with 8 wins and 11 losses.
