Nepal struggled to defeat Bhutan

By a Staff Reporter The Nepal U17 Football team defeated Bhutan by 2-1 to register their first win in an ongoing SAFF U17 Championship in Sri Lanka. Unesh Budhathoki scored in the 13th minute to give Nepal an early lead. Semanta Thapa doubled the lead in the 57th minute of the match. Jetsune Dorji scored a consolation for Bhutan in the 68th minute.  With the win, Nepal marched on to the semi-finals of the Championship. Bhutan faced a 3-0 defeat against India in its first outing which helped Nepal to qualify for the semis with one game in hand. Khatun strikes twice as Bangladesh finds the winning start

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Skipper Sabina Khatun strikes twice as Bangladesh defeats Maldives 3-0 to find a winning start to the sixth SAFF Women's Championship. Masura Prabin added apiece to the goal tally. Khatun opened an account for Bangladesh in the 31st minute of the match. Maldivian skipper and goalkeeper Aminath Lija failed to judge a 35-yard-long ranger stroke by Kathun. Prabin doubled Bangladesh's lead in the 34th minute of the match. She converted into an empty net. Skipper Khatun scored her second and the team's third goal in the 40th minute of the match. India begin title defense beating Pakistan

By a Staff Reporter Defending Champions India got off to a winning start in the Sixth SAFF Women's Championship beating Pakistan 3-0. Pakistan started off well keeping ball possession and creating a few attacks but to no return. India slowly gained momentum and led the game via own goal. Sandhiya Ranganathan's cross from the left was parried away by Mahapara Shahida. The rebound hit Maria Khan and went into the goal to put India in front. India doubled the lead soon after with Dangmei Grace getting into the scoresheet. She received Anju Tamang's clever pass and guided the ball in 1v1 position. Nepal off to a winning start

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal National Women's Football Team defeated Bhutan National Women's Football Team by 4-0 in the inaugural match of SAFF Women's Championship. Sabitra Bhandari (Samba) and Anita Basnet scored a brace each on a rainy evening at Dashrath Stadium. Nepal took an early lead through Samba in the 12th minute of the match. Samba netted in an empty post after Bhutanese goalkeeper Sangita Monger collided with debutant Amisha Karki while attempting to clear the ball. Samba doubled Nepal's lead in the 68th minute. Nepal to face reigning champions Maldives in opener

Nepal will be facing reigning champions and hosts Maldives in the first match of SAFF Championship 2021. The regional tournament will have five teams competing for the title. Nepal and Maldives will meet for the first time in 2018 after the last SAAF semi-final in Bangladesh. At that time, Nepal had lost 3-0 to Maldives in the semifinals. Nepal will play its second match against Sri Lanka on September 3 in the championship to be held in Male. Similarly, Nepal will face the most successful team of the tournament India on September 8. Nepal will end the league round facing Bangladesh on September 11. The top two teams of the round-robin league will play the final for the title on September 13.
