Kathmandu – The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a 17-membered squad for the upcoming Asia Cup which will jointly be hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka later this month.
The Asia Cup will begin from August 30 to September 17 with Nepal taking on co-host Pakistan at Multan. Nepal finds itself in Group ‘A’ alongside cricketing giants India and Pakistan. In Group ‘B’, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka will compete against each other to secure a spot in the Super 4 stage.
After facing Pakistan at Multan, Nepal will travel to Sri Lanka to take on India on September 4. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 4 stage.
One of the Super 4 matches will be held in Pakistan, while the remaining matches are scheduled to take place in Sri Lanka. The top two teams from the Super 4 stage will then proceed to compete for the prestigious Asia Cup title on September 17.
Traditionally, ICC and ACC competitions featured teams comprising 15 players. However, the Asia CUp allows each team to have 17 players in the squad. The Nepali team will be led by Rohit Paudel.
