Kathmandu – The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) has announced the reappointment of Gaurav Basnet as the head coach of the Nepal National Futsal Team.
In a formal ceremony held on Monday, ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai presented Basnet with his appointment letter, confirming his role as head coach.
Basnet has been at the helm of the National Futsal Team since 2019, initially joining as an assistant coach in August of that year while Bishnu Gurung held the position of Head Coach.
Basnet was subsequently promoted to the position of Head Coach in April 2021. During his tenure, the National Futsal team represented Nepal in the 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualifier held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Despite encountering challenges during the qualifiers, the team’s performance saw improvement under Basnet’s guidance.
Following the conclusion of the aforementioned qualifiers, Nepal’s participation in futsal events was put on hold. Now, as the nation gears up for the upcoming AFC Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers 2024 in Mongolia, Basnet will once again lead the national futsal team. Assisting him in this endeavor will be Thamman Bhusal, who assumes the role of assistant coach.
Nepal finds itself placed in Group D of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup 2024 Qualifiers, alongside Vietnam, South Korea, and the host nation, Mongolia. The scheduled matches for Group D are set to take place in Mongolia from October 7 to 11 later this year.
