AIFF faces suspension

By a Staff Reporter

Agency – The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) suspended the All Indian Football Federation (AIFF) due to the influence of a third party in the federation.

FIFA had been warning AIFF time and again about the violation of FIFA Statues. The Supreme Court of India directed the AIFF to form its own board. However, FIFA had warned not to do so. As the football governing body of India was not given a healthy environment to hold elections, FIFA forcefully decided to suspend the AIFF with immediate effect.

As per FIFA, “The suspension will be lifted once an order to set up a committee of administrators to assume the powers of the AIFF Executive Committee has been repealed and the AIFF administration regains the full control of the AIFF’s daily affairs.”

With the decision of FIFA, India will no longer play in an international club and national team competitions. Indian clubs will also not be allowed to compete in AFC international competitions. The U-17 Women’s World Cup, which India is preparing to host in October, is also going to be shifted elsewhere.
