Kathmandu – Machhindra Football Club secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory against APF Football Club in an ongoing Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’ Divison League 2023 at Dasarath Stadium on Sunday, thanks to Nigerian forward Afeez Oladipo Olawale’s heroic.
APF started the game brightly and took an initial lead through Armand Beadoum’s goal in the 37th minute. However, Machhindra responded well with Karim Omolaja converting a free-kick in first-half injury time to level the score before the break.
The second half was a tense affair, with both teams creating numerous chances. However, it was Olawale who proved to be the hero for Machhindra, scoring a spectacular goal from outside the box in the first minute of injury time to clinch all three points for his team.
The win saw Machhindra move up to the fourth position in the points table with 24 points from 15 matches, the same as second-placed Jawalakhel Youth Club and third-placed Three Star Club. Meanwhile, APF slipped to the ninth position with 19 points.
