A Heavy Defeat Against India Brings Nepal’s Women’s Asia Cup Journey To A Fullstop

Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – An 82-run defeat against India has ended Nepal’s journey at the ACC Women’s Asia Cup 2024. Nepal, who went into the game with slim chances of making it to the semifinals, were easily trounced by the Indian outfit.

Nepal, chasing 179 runs, could only manage to score 96/9 in 20 overs. Sita Rana Magar scored 18, Bindu Rawal added an unbeaten 17 runs to the total, Rubina Chhetry made 15 runs and Indu Barma got off to a good start but was dismissed for 14.

Deepti Sharma took three wickets for India with Radha Tadav and Arundhati Reddy chipping in with two wickets each. Renuka Singh had one wicket to her name.

Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, India posted 178/3 in 20 overs. Shafali Verma made a 48-ball 81 with 12 fours and a six to her name. Her opening partner for the day, Dayalan Hemanlatha, made a steady 47 in 42 deliveries with five fours and a six to her name. Jemimah Rodrigues made a quick fire 28 and Sajeevan Sajana added 10 runs to the total. Richa Ghosh remained unbeaten on six runs.

Sita Rana Magar took two wickets for Nepal while one wicket fell for Kabita Joshi.

Nepal end the tournament with two points in Group A. India topped the group on six points and Pakistan finish as the runners-up with four points.
