Valencia said in a statement that coach Javi Garcia has been fired. Valencia had fallen six points short of the La Liga’s relegation zone after the lost to Barcelona.
Garcia took over at the end of last season. He was fired after his team lost 3-2 at home to Barcelona, their sixth consecutive defeat in the league. He even said after the loss to Barcelona that he “could not be any more concerned” about the team’s situation. Gracia is the 11th coach to leave the club in the last nine years.
His exit had been anticipated after he was offered his resignation in October. It was because of the club’s failure to sign any new players during the transfer window, amid the selling of some key players, including captain Dani Parejo and Spain’s attacking pair Ferran Torres and Rodrigo Moreno.
