Unbeaten Nepal storm into Asian volleyball final

Kathmandu – Defending champions Nepal have reached the final of the AVC Central Zone Volleyball Championship in the women’s section without losing any match in the league round.

Unbeaten Nepal defeated Kyrgyzstan in straight sets in their last match of the round-robin league on Monday. This is the second time Nepal have reached the final without losing a single match.

Nepal won the first set 25-8 with ease during the match held in Mirpur, Dhaka. The women’s team of Nepal then went on to win the next two sets 25-14 and 25-16 to emerge as the title favourites.

Nepal had defeated Sri Lanka 3-2 in their first match of the league round followed by straight set wins over the Maldives, Bangladesh and Uzbekistan.

Setter Kripa Adhikari and middle blocker Manisha Chaudhary have returned to the national team for this championship while Shanti Tharu, Kamana Bista and Laxmi Chand made their debuts.

Nepal will now face Uzbekistan on Tuesday during the title clash. Nepal had defeated Uzbekistan 3-0 in the league round. Uzbekistan qualified for the final after defeating Sri Lanka 3-2 in their last league match.

Nepal had won the first edition of the championship in Bangladesh by defeating the Maldives 3-0 in the final.
