Kumar Thapa has been reappointed as the head coach of the Nepal National Women’s Football Team. The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) announced the appointment of Thapa as the head coach of the National Women’s Team for the SAFF Championship through its website on Friday.

Earlier, Thapa looked after the team in the fourth edition of SAFF Women Championship which concluded in Siliguri, India. At that time, the team’s journey ended in the semi-finals. In the fifth edition which took place in Biratnagar, Nepal lost to India in the finals. Hari Khadka was incharge of the team back then. So far, Nepal has been defeated in all the editions by India and remained title less. Four time runners-up Nepal will be aiming to win the title for the first time.
AFC-A licensed coach Thapa led the APF Football Club in the Martyr’s Memorial A Division League. He rescued the relegation favourites APF from getting demoted to the B Division League. Especially after signing foreign players in the team, the team managed to achieve good results.
The sixth edition of SAFF Championship will take place in Kathmandu from September 6 to 19, 2022. ANFA has also formed various committees to organize the competition. ANFA has formed an 18-member organizing committee under the coordination of Senior Vice President Bir Bahadur Khadka. All vice presidents and executive committee members will be included in the committee.
Likewise, ANFA has appointed Bindra Dewan as the team manager. In the tournament, Rabindra Chand will be the venue manager, Vijay Ghale will be the local general coordinator and Dinesh Byanjankar will be the security chief. Sanjeeb Shilpkar will take charge of marketing, broadcast and digital rights.
The matches of the tournament are likely to be held at Dashrath Stadium. 7 countries including the host Nepal will participate in the competition.
