Shukra Rai wins Surya Nepal Eastern Open

Kathmandu – Dharan’s local professional golfer Shukra Bahadur Rai has won title of the Surya Nepal Eastern Open. Along with the title, Rai also bagged a purse of Rs 135,000.

Rai scored 1 over 61 on the third day to take a five-stroke lead in the tournament that kicked off on Monday. He scored an overall total of 1 under 209 to finish ahead of amateur Subash Tamang. On the final day of the tournament, Rai played even-par 36 in the front nine and 1 over 35 in the back nine.

The Surya Nepal Eastern Open was the second event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2020-21.

The tournament featured a total of 48 Golfers — 30 professionals and 18 amateurs–  at the Dharan Golf Club, Dharan.  The event sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt. Ltd. was be played over 54 holes over three days and carried a total purse of Rs. 775,000.

 The winner took home a purse of Rs 135,000, while the runner-up bagged Rs 88,000 and the third-position holder earned a sum of Rs 65,000. Others in the top 21 were also given their share of cash prizes, according to the organisers.

 The tournament will conclude with the amateur golfers teaming up with the pros in the Pro-Am event on Thursday, December 30.
