Shakti Gauchan to vie for district president of Rupandehi chapter of CAN

Kathmandu – Shakti Gauchan, the most successful spin bowling all-rounder of Nepal, is all set to vie for the post of district president of Rupandehi chapter of Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

Gauchan on Thursday announced through social media that he will file his candidacy for the post of district president during the upcoming election of Rupandehi chapter of CAN on January 19.

“I am preparing to file candidacy for the post of district president for the sake of cricket and cricket  players and for the development of the game through innovative ideas and plans as well as to make Rupandehi the best district,” wrote Gauchan, adding, “I am expecting support and well wishes from  the concerned  officials to make this campaign a success.”

There are speculations that Gautam and Hari Thapa will vie for the post or Rupandehi district president under CAN. Gauchan, one of the most successful cricketers in the history or Nepali cricket, called time on his playing career in 2018. He retired from cricket after representing Nepal in the country’s first ODI match against the Netherlands in August 2018.

Gauchan had started his career in international cricket during the ACC U-17 Asia Cup held  in Bangladesh in 2001. He made his debut in the national team the following year during the ACC Trophy Elite held in Singapore. He has made immense contribution to the Nepali national cricket team during the T20 World Cup, ICC Cricket League Division 5, 4, and 3 as well as One-Day International.

He played a vital role in the success achieved by Nepal in international cricket between 2002 to 2018.
