Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – Nepal National Women’s Football squad has been announced for the Cedar Women’s Cup 2024, a four-nation tournament to be held in Lebanon in July. Coach Rajendra Tamang has revealed the 23-member team representing Nepal, including long-time absentees midfielder duo Saru Limbu and Renuka Nagarkote.
Saru and Renuka sustained injuries during the Asian Games. The squad features a majority of players who participated in the WAFF Championship in Saudi Arabia. Midfielder Preeti Rai, who was injured during that tournament, has been included in the team.
Nepal’s first match will be against Jordan on July 10. Nepal lost to Jordan in the final of the WAFF Women’s Championship, a game decided by a tiebreaker in Jordan’s favor. Following this, Nepal will face South Asian rival Bangladesh on July 13 and then compete against the host team, Lebanon, on July 16.
The tournament will follow a single round-robin format, with the top two teams advancing to the final to compete for the title.
Coach Rajendra Tamang, who led Nepal to the runner-up position in the West Asian (WAFF) Championship, continues to train the team.
