Kathmandu – Sankata Club and Satdobato Youth Club shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw during their Qatar Airways Martyrs Memorial A Division League match held at the Dasharath Stadium on Friday.
First-half goals from both sides in the competitive match turned out to be the final score of the match. Sushil Rai of Satdobato and Jaya Gurung of Sankata were on target for their respective clubs.
Sankata got an early scare as Sudeep Gurung’s shot from outside the penalty box was punched away by goalkeeper Raja Babu Thapa in the fourth minute. Sankata missed a chance to take the lead in the 11th minute as Abhishek Baral managed to save a shot from Fode Fofana by the skin of his teeth. Baral once again saved a free kick of Niraj Basnet in the 19th minute to deny Sankata from taking the lead.
Four minutes later, Sushil Rai scored a goal to give Satdobato a 1-0 lead courtesy to a mistake from Sankata goalkeeper Thapa, whose attempt to clear a back-pass from Niraj Basnet entered the net after hitting Rai. Satdobato could have doubled their lead in the 30th minute but a powerful shot by Sudeep Gurung from outside the box skied off after hitting the crossbar.
Jaya Gurung scored a superb goal for Sankata in the 32nd minute to level the game 1-1. Satdobato goalkeeper Baral was stunned as Gurung scored a wonderful goal from 30 yards in a pass from Dipesh Ale Magar.
