Rupandehi stun Army to set up final date against Malaysia-XI

Rupandehi-XI and Malaysia-XI have reached the final of the Pro Club Championship underway in Bhairahawa.

Rupandehi secured a place in the final on Thursday after defeating Tribhuvan Army Club by 6 wickets. It may be noted that the army team has majority of players from the national team.

The first semifinal match between Malaysia and Uttar Pradesh was reduced to 5 overs each. Malaysia, which opted to bat first at the Siddhartha Stadium after winning the toss, made 44 runs in 5 overs losing 3 wickets.

Malaysia’s opener Said Aziz scored 23 runs off 13 balls including 4 boundaries. Likewise, Birandeep Singh contributed 20 runs off 14 balls. UP’s Raj Yadav took  all three wickets giving away 2 runs in his  one-over spell

Chasing a target of 45 runs for victory, UP managed to score only 30 runs in 5 overs losing 4 wickets. Subham Chaudhary topscored 11 runs for UP. Malaysia’s Birandeep Singh took 2 wickets giving away 3 runs.

In the second semifinal, Army were all out for 103 runs in 19.4 overs. Army’s Rohit Poudel scored 36 runs off 40 balls that included four boundaries. Likewise, Hari Chauhan contributed 17 runs, Rajesh Pulami 13, Binod Bhandari was duck out while Sompal Kami scored 6 and Kushal Malla was run out for 1 run.

Rupandehi’s Washir Ahmad and Rupesh Kurmi took two wickets each while Krishna Karki and Bikram Bhushal bagged a wicket each.

Chasing a target of 104 runs for victory, Rupandehi met the goal in 17.3 overs. Washir Ahmad topscored 45 runs off 35 balls. His innings included 4 boundaries and two sixes.

Army’s Bikram Sob took 3 wickets giving away 8 runs in his three-over spell.

The final will be held on Saturday.

Rupandehi had defeated Malaysia by 6 wickets in the group stage.
