Kathmandu – The Youth Athletics Championship kicked off in the capital on Monday. Rammaya Budha and Prakash Kathayat, both from Jumla, clinched gold medals on the opening day of the event in the women’s and men’s 3,000 meters race respectively.

Rammaya covered the distance of 3,000 meters at the Dastrath Stadium with a timing of 10 minutes and 44.5 seconds to finish first in the event. Likewise, Prakash completed the race in 9 minutes and 22.7 seconds to secure the first place. Ajay Pandey of Kapilbastu finished second with a timing of 9 minutes 40 seconds while Mahesh Sidali of Lalitpur settled for the third place with a timing of 9 minutes 41 seconds.
In the women’s section, Bandana Budha of Jumla finished second in the 3,000 meters race with a timing of 11 minutes 21.9 seconds. Her closest contender was Bimala Karki of Surkhet who secured the third position. She clocked 11 minutes and 43 seconds to finish third.
The two-day event organized by the Athletics Family Nepal will conclude on Tuesday.
