Rain plays the spoilsport as Nepal crashes out of ACC Women’s T20 semis

By a Staff Reporter

Kathmandu – Nepal has crashed out of the ACC Women’s T20 Championship after its semifinal match against the UAE was disrupted by rainfall on Friday. After the rainfall prevented the match from being completed, the UAE was announced the winners by the virtue of being the champions of Group A. Nepal had made it to the semifinal as the runners-up of Group B.

Nepal had made a good start to the semifinal by restricting the UAE to 81 runs in 19.5 overs at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Malaysia. Ashmina Karmacharya’s five-wicket haul helped Nepal restrict the UAE to a meagre total.

Nepal had a modest target of 82 runs for victory but the second  innings could not be held due to rainfall. As a result, Nepal crashed out of the championship, denying it an opportunity to qualify for the ACC Women’s Asia Cup.

Nepal lost the match as per the ICC rule. Since the final was fixed for Saturday, there wasn’t any reserve day. The match between Nepal and the UAE was cancelled because the second semifinal between Hong Kong and Malaysia was scheduled for 12 pm local time. Malaysia stunned Hong Kong by 12 runs to reach the final.

Only the top two teams that make it to the final will get an opportunity to compete in the Asia Cup.
