Pokhara – The opening match of the Men’s Football Tournament under the 9th National Games has become controversial as the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) fielded 8 National players standing against the competition’s rule.

The match got heated up before kickoff due to which the match began one and a half hours later than the scheduled time. Province 1 agreed to play after the organizers asked them to protest after the match.

Sanjok Rai and Bimal Gharti scored as NRNA sidelined Province 1 by 2-0 in the match held on Thursday at Gosteghat Football Ground. Province 1 demanded National Sports Council (NSC) give results in their favor as NRNA went against the competition’s rule.

Province 1 claims that the players who play for NRNA should have lived abroad for at least 180 days. Ananta Tamang, Pujan Uparkoti, Sujal Shrestha, Sanjok Rai, Bimal Gharti Magar, Bishal Rai, Nishan Khadka, and Ashok Khawas stepped into the field from NRNA.
