Kathmandu – A brace from Nepal Police Club forward Ravi Shankar Paswan helped the departmental team register their second victory in the Qatar Airways Martyrs Memorial A Division League.
Paswan scored a goal each on each half of the match as Police secured a crucial 2-1 win over Chyasal Youth Club on Wednesday. Mousa Awanga of Chyasal hit back a goal for his club.
Police made an attempt to score as early as the second minute of the match but Chyasal’s goalkeeper Arpan Karki foiled a header from Ajit Bhandari. Tej Tamang could have given the breakthrough to Police but his shot from outside the penalty box missed the post narrowly in the 24th minute.
Paswan scored in the 37th minute in a pass from Nir Kumar Rai to give Police a 1-0 lead.
After the break, Kamal Shrestha’s free kick was punched away by Police goalkeeper Shatrughan Chaudhary in the 51st minute. Two minutes later, Awanga hit an equalizer from the spot. Chyasal were awarded a penalty after Rumesh Bartaula was felled in the box by a police player. Bartaula was on target but Police goalkeeper Chaudhary saved his shot with a dive.
Paswan scored his second goal in the 69th minute to make the score 2-1. He beat Chyasal skipper Biraj Maharjan in a pass from Suman Lama to score the goal.
With the victory, Police now have 10 points from 9 matches and have climbed to 10 position in the table. Although APF also have 10 points, they are in the ninth position due to superior goal.
On the other hand, Chyasal face relegation threat after the defeat. They are in the 13th position with 5 points from 9 matches. Now, their fate depends upon the results of other teams even if they secure wins in all four of their remaining matches.
