Kathmandu – The ninth edition of National Games is all set to be held in early June later this year.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday has decided to organize the mega sporting event from June 5 to 11 in Pokhara, the capital of Gandaki Province.
The cabinet endorsed the proposal submitted by Sports Minister Maheshwar Jung Gahatraj to hold the national games in the stipulated date.
“The cabinet has approved the date. Now we will begin preparations,” said Sports Minister Gahatraj.
The upcoming national games will serve as a preliminary selection for the Asian Games slated for September 10 to 25 in China.
The Eighth National Games were held in Lumbini Province in 2075/76. The ninth edition has been deferred time and again due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The National Sports Council had initiated the national games in 2038 BS with the concept of organizing it every two years. However, there are instances when the games have been halted for as much as one and a half decades.
