New Diamond suffers second defeat in a row

Kathmandu – New Diamond Sports Academy suffered second defeat in a row in an ongoing Tiger Cup National and International Open Club Championship at Pokhara.

The departmental side Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) beat New Diamond in a straight set of 3-0 in the women’s event on Tuesday. TAC won the sets comfortably by 25-10, 25-16, and 25-16.

Likewise, Nepal Police Club (NPC) struggled to acquire victory over St Joseph Watch Sports Club and Nepal APF Club continued their unbeaten streak under the men’s event of the championship.

NPC, who lost the first two sets, made a superb comeback and won the match by 3-2 over St Joseph. NPC fell behind by 19-25, and 23-25 in the first two sets. However, NPC accelerated their pace and won the remaining sets by 25-23, 25-16, and 15-13.

Moreover, APF defeated the hosts Gandaki Province by 3-1 in the second match under the men’s event. Gandaki, who lost the first two sets, tried to pick up the momentum winning the third set. But, APF put a break on their momentum and won the fourth set to continue their unbeaten streak.

APF won the first two sets by 25-19, and 25-23. It lost third by 20-25 and clinched the fourth by 25-19.

The win means APF stays at the top with 9 points from 3 matches. Gandaki Province and TAC have collected 3 points from 2 matches. While NPC has 3 points, Srilankan Side St Joseph has 1 point from 2 matches.

A total of 9 teams including 4 women’s and 5 men’s teams are competing in the third edition of Tiger Cup. Both the champion teams will purse NRs. 5 Lakhs each, while the runners-up will receive NRs. 2.5 Lakhs.

Similarly, the Best Player of each match will be rewarded with five thousand and a health checkup facility equivalent to three thousand rupees. The best player in both events will receive NRs. 25,000 and the best in each category will get NRs. 10,000.
