Kathmandu – New Diamond Cup U18 Open National Women’s Volleyball, going to be organized by New Diamond Sports Club is scheduled to kick off on February 21.
The organizers, amidst a press conference at the capital on Thursday, informed that the tournament will be held on February 21 to 25.
A total of 12 teams from and outside the valley will compete in the tournament which is organized with the purpose to gather support for the construction of the Covered Hall of the club.
“The prime aim of organizing this tournament is to develop volleyball from the grassroots along with gathering support in the construction of the Club’s Covered Hall,” the club’s president as well as coach Kumar Rai informed.
The tournament will be played on the basis of the Best of Five under the rules of FIVB, with the league cum knockout format. The team registration is open till Friday. More than 6 teams have already confirmed their participation. Moreover, The fixtures will be released on Saturday.
Additionally, the tournament will be held along with the technical support of the Nepal Volleyball Association (NVA). Similarly, the Provincial Sports Development Council of Bagmati Province has supported the awards. Nagarjuna Municipality has also provided financial support. Meanwhile, Chandragiri Municipality is the patron of the championship.
The estimated budget of the tournament is 2 million where 1 million rupees will be distributed as the prize money. Kiran Karki, vice president of the club and coordinator of the covered hall construction committee, said that 4 million rupees have been spent on the construction of the covered hall to date.
