Nepal suffers seven-wicket defeat to Hong Kong in ACC Women’s T20

Kathmandu – Nepal suffered a seven-wicket defeat to Hong Kong in the last match of the group stage of the 2022 ACC Women’s T20 Championship underway in Malaysia. The defeat has ended Nepal’s hope of reaching the semifinal as group leaders. Nepal, nevertheless, will play the semifinal as runners-up of Group B.

Chasing a 110-run target posted by Nepal, Hong Kong achieved victory in 15.5 overs losing three wickets at the Kinrara Oval on Tuesday. Mariko Hill scored the highest 45 runs for Hong Kong while Captain Kary Chan contributed 17 runs. Similarly, Natasha Miles remained unbeaten on 28 runs.

Sangita Rai took two wickets for Nepal while Sita Magar grabbed one.

Earlier, Nepal opted to bat first after winning the toss, and made 109 runs in allotted 20 overs losing six wickets.    
Nepal’s Capitan Rubina Chhetri and Apsari Begam remained unbeaten on 32 and 22 runs respectively. Similarly, Bindu Rawal scored 23 runs while Sita Magar contrinuted nine, Mamata Chaudhary seven, Kabita Joshi four and Kajal Shrestha one.   

Hong Kong’s Betty Chan claimed two wickets and Maryam Bibi and Elysa Hubbard took one wicket each.    
Nepal has already secured a place in the semi-finals after defeating Bahrain by eight wickets in its third match on June 20.

Drawn in Group ‘B’, it has collected six points with three wins and a defeat. Eearlier, Nepal had defeated Bhutan by 50 runs in its first match followed by a 25-run win over Kuwait and eight-wicket victory over Bahrain.

Two teams that make it to finals will qualify for the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup.
