The home side Namibia defeated the visitors Nepal by 86 runs in ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match on Wednesday.
Namibia’s Inning
Invited to bat first, Namibia scored 275/7 in the scheduled 50 overs. A century inning from Michael van Lingen helped Namibia to earn a massive total. Opening with a bat, Lo-handre Louwrens and Divan la Cock were dismissed for 14 and 18 runs respectively.
Michael van, who stepped in the crease as a third batsman after the fall of the first wicket in 7.5 overs, collected 119 runs off 111 deliveries including 15 fours and a sixer before Sagar Dhakal caught his shot off Sompal Kami’s delivery in the 48.3 over.
Moreover, Namibia’s skipper Gerhard Erasmus playing a half-century inning contributed 53 runs to the tally. With Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton scoring 40 runs, JJ Smit (2), Zane Green (9), and Pikky Ya France* collected 9 runs.
Nepal’s Spinner Lalit Rajbanshi picked up 4 wickets, whereas pacer Sompal Kami claimed 2 and Sagar Dhakal booked apiece.
Nepal’s Inning
In return, Nepal failed to chase the winning target of 276 runs at United Ground in Windhoek. JJ Smit, Tangeni Lungameni, and Pikky Ya France claimed 2 wickets each whereas Ruben Trumpelmann, Bernard Scholtz, and Michael van Lingen took a wicket to stop Nepal for 189 runs in 46.5 overs.
Nepal’s skipper, Rohit Paudel earned the highest runs for the visiting side. Smashing 3 fours off 61 balls, Rohit collected 44 runs.
Another match, another run out for Nepal’s Wicket-keeper batsman Arjun Saud. Facing 55 deliveries, Arjun collected 29 runs with 1 four and 2 sixers before getting run out in the 17.5 overs.
Kushal Bhurtel, who opened the innings after quite a long, disappointed the Nepali supporters once again. Kushal, with a puny 3 runs, returned to the dugout in 3.6 overs.
Similarly, Aasif Sheikh (7), Gulsan Jha (2), and Sompal Kami (0) joined Kushal in disappointing the supporters.
Gyanendra Malla (30), Dipendra Singh Airee (34), Aarif Sheikh (18), and Lalit Rajbanshi contributed 11 runs to the total. Sagar Dhakal remained not out without a single run.
Nepal, who were lucky enough to share a spoil in its first match of the Namibia Tour against the home side, lost to Scotland in its second. Nepal will now play its last match of the tour against Scotland on Thursday.
