Nepal suffers a broad margin defeat

Nepal suffered a broad margin defeat over Thailand in AFC U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers at Phu Tho provincial stadium in Vietnam.

Tontawan Pun Tamunee scored twice and Thanakrit Jampali scored apiece as Thailand registered a comfortable victory of 3-0 over Nepal. Tontawan headed the ball home to break a deadlock at the half-hour mark.

Thailand doubled the tally in the 65th minute. Unmarked Tontawan tapped in following the cutback from Thanakrit Lomnak from the right side of the box. Thanakrit dribbled past 3 Nepali defenders to net the third in the 79th minute.

Nepal, who stepped into the field with a defensive strategy failed to capitalize on the minimum opportunity received.

Chinese Taipei will take on hosts Vietnam in the second match of the day at 5:45 PM NST. Nepal is drawn alongside Thailand, Chinese Taipei, and hosts Vietnam in Group F. 

A total of 44 teams are drawn into 10 groups where each group winner and six best runners-up will qualify for the final round.
