Kathmandu – Nepal National Women’s Football Team have suffered a 2-0 loss against Vietnam in their first group stage match of 19th ASIAD Women’s Football.
Nepal, in Group D, conceded two goals in the second half and suffered defeat in Hangzhou. Two goals for Vietnam were scored by Pham Hai Yen in the 53rd minute and Bich Thuy in the 64th minute.
Nepal put in a great shift in the first half to hold the Vietnamese attack up but conceded two goals in the second half. Nepal goalkeeper Anjila Tumbapo Subba was beat in a rebound after she saved a shot from outside the box in the first goal. In the second, Bich Thuy scored a header from the six-yard line to seal the victory for Vietnam.
Nepal, who fielded five defenders in the match, suffered an early blow in the match after midfielder Saru Limbu was subbed off due to an injury.
Nepal will face Japan in the second match on Monday. The final group match against Bangladesh will be on Thursday. All group winners and three best runners-up will qualify for the quarterfinals,
