Kathmandu – Nepal crashed out of the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifiers on Tuesday after facing a 41-run defeat to Thailand during their match held at the Kinrara Oval in Malaysia.
Nepal’s hopes of qualifying for the U-19 Women’s World Cup has effectively ended following the defeat. The U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup will be held in South Africa next year.
Chasing the target of 90 runs for victory, Nepal lost all its wickets in 19.5 overs with just 40 runs on board.
Nepal’s Shristi Jaishi top-scored 7 runs off 21 balls and Sana Prabin scored 6 off 21 balls. Nathita Bunsukham of Thailand took 3 wickets giving away 9 runs.
Earlier, Thailand were invited to bat first and posted a total of 89 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the alloted 20 overs. Thipatcha Putthavong was the top scorer for Thailand with 20 runs. Nepal’s spinner Manisha Upadhyaya and Kritika Marasini took two wickets each while Sneha Mahara took one wicket.
Earlier, Nepal had defeated Qatar by 79 runs in the first match and lost its second match against the UAE by 10 wickets. Similarly, Nepal defeated Bhutan by 4 wickets in the third match. The top team in the six-nation tournament will be selected for the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
Nepal will now play its final match of the qualifiers against Malaysia on Thursday.
