Nepal beat Maldives for second victory

Kathmandu – The men’s volleyball team of Nepal defeated the Maldives in their last match of the league round of the AVC Asian Central Zone Women’s and Men’s Volleyball Championship on Sunday.

Nepal defeated the Maldives in straight sets of 3-0 during the match held in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Although Nepal maintained the lead from the beginning, they had to struggle to win the first set 27-25. Nepal won the second set 25-19 and the third set 25-23 to complete the rout.

This is the second victory of Nepal during the championship. Earlier, Nepal had bounced back from the first set defeat to oust Uzbekistan 3-1. Nepal were beaten 3-0 by hosts Bangladesh in their opening match followed by a 3-1 defeat to Sri Lanka.

With the latest win, Nepal have collected six points from four matches. Maldives have not scored a single point so far. Uzbekistan, who have played a match less, are behind Nepal with three points.

Sri Lanka will next face the Maldives while Uzbekistan will take on hosts Bangladesh during their respective matches on Monday. Altogether five teams – hosts Bangladesh, Nepal Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan and the Maldives – are competing in the men’s section of the championship.
