Kathmandu – Hosts Nepal will take on against Bangladesh in the final of the SAFF Women’s Championship 2022 on September 19 at Dashrath Stadium in Kathmandu.
Nepal sidelined defending champions India by a narrow margin of 1-0 to book a spot in the final whereas Bangladesh registered a comfortable victory of 8-0 over Bhutan. Nepal and Bangladesh will face each other in the final for the first time. With five time champion India out of contention, SAFF will get new women champion.
In the pre-match conference Nepal’s Head Coach Kumar Thapa said that his team is ready to win the final. “We are well prepared for the final. We are physically and mentally fit to play in the final. We had our sights set on the title since we started training 9 weeks ago. Now the time has arrived,” said Thapa
Thapa believes that the home crowd’s support helped Nepal to do well in the semi-final. With the same support from the spectators, he expects to clinch the title of SAFF Championship for the first time on home soil. Skipper Anjila also mentioned that the team is ready to create history by winning the final.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Head Coach Golam Robbani Choton said that his team can beat Nepal in front of home crowd. “We have experience of winning in front of home fans. In last four matches, Bangladesh have played very good football and girls are full of confidence. They will not take any pressure and play their game. We aim for the title,’ added Choton.
