Nepal aims to mark happy ending of round robin

Nepal National U20 Football team is set to face Bangladesh in its final round robin match of ongoing SAFF U20 Championship.

Two teams will finalize their spot to the finals in a doubleheader today. In the first match of the day, Nepal will take on Bangladesh at 4:15 PM NST whereas India will compete against Maldives at 7:15 PM NST in Kalinga Stadium at Bhumaneswar. Nepal’s journey to the finals have been complicated following a 8-0 defeat against defending champions India. Nepal still holds the probability to qualify for the finals if luck favors them.

Nepal, who maintained clean sheets in the first two games performed below par in its third outing against India. Nepal needs to beat Bangladesh by a 5 goal margin to assure a spot in the final. The results looks tough to achieve as Bangladesh are constantly performing well.

Nepal may reach finals also if India loses to Maldives and Nepal share the spoils against Bangladesh. Furthermore, if the match between India and Maldives reaches a stalemate and Nepal defeats Bangladesh even by a small margin, Nepal will qualify for the finals.

Nepal will step in the field aiming for an absolute victory. There is no other option except a victory for Nepal to qualify for the finals. On the other hand, Bangladesh aims to reach finals remaining undefeated. Bangladesh will step in the field with a strategy of stopping Nepal.

Nepal have slipped down to a third position in the competition points table after a defeat against India. Bangladesh is leading the table with 9 points  from 3 matches. India stands second with 6 points whereas Sri Lanka and Maldives have already found their way out of the competition.
