Men’s volleyball team return empty handed

Kathmandu – The women’s volleyball team of Nepal lifted the title of AVC Central Zone Championship but the men’s team had to return home empty handed after losing the third-place playoff to Uzbekistan in straight sets.

Nepal lost the match to Uzbekistan 25-15, 25-17, 25-22 during their  match held in Mirpur, Dhaka on Tuesday.

Two years ago, Nepal had crashed out from the group stage. However, they contested for a medal this year but failed. The men’s volleyball team of Nepal had earlier defeated Uzbekistan in the league round but lost the third-place playoff.

Nepal had settled for a bronze medal during an earlier edition of the championship held in the Maldives five years ago. It was the first international medal secured by the men’s volleyball team of Nepal. The men’s volleyball team of Nepal have clinched only a single international medal in 40 years.

Nepal, who were beaten in the league round by Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, had defeated Uzbekistan and the Maldives.

On the other hand, the women’s team of Nepal defeated Uzbekistan 3-2 to lift the title on Tuesday.
