Kathmandu – Karuna Bhandari, an experienced spinner of the Nepali national women’s cricket team, has been sidelined for nine months due to injury layoff. Bhandari had undergone operation of her right knee ligament (ACL) on Thursday and will miss action for at least nine months.
Her surgery was done at Old Baneshwar-based Frontline Hospital in the capital. She was discharged from the hospital on Sunday afternoon. She sustained knee injury during a training session with the national team in April.
Bhandari said she opted for a surgery upon doctors’ advice. According to her, Cricket Association of Nepal will be bearing all her medical expenses.
Bhandari is an experienced player of the national team. She has been performing exceptionally well in domestic tournaments as well as for the national team. Her contribution to her club – APF – was vital as the departmental team maintained its dominance in the national tournaments. Bhandari is one of the vital players of both APF as well as the national women’s cricket team of Nepal.
She was not included in Nepal’s team during the recent ACC Women’s T20 Championship held in Malaysia. She has taken 17 wickets in 21 T20I matches for Nepal.
