Kathmandu – Nasir Yaha Hussein and Niva Maskey bagged two gold medals each in the opening day of the 10th NSA Cup Open and Age-Group Swimming Championship on Sunday.
Hussain secured gold medal in 200 metre individual medley and 100 metre free style while Maskey clinched gold medal in 50 metre backstroke and 100 metre free-style during the competition organized by the Nepal Swimming Association (NSA) at Satdobato Swimming Complex.
Maskey secured gold medal in 50 metre backstroke in the women’s category finishing the distance in 35.90 seconds. Royal Prajapati stood second with 37.96 seconds and Arya Maharjan third clocking 38.11 seconds.
Similarly, Dubana Lama bagged gold medal in women’s 200 metre individual medley under open category in the women’s section. She finished 200 metres with a timing of 37.17 seconds to secure gold. Niva Maskey stood second in the same category covering the distance in 2 minutes 40 seconds while Siyara Subhangi finished third with a timing of 3 minutes 1 second.
In the men’s 200 meters personal medley, Hussain covered the distance of 200 metres in 2 minutes and 18 seconds to finish ahead of Seren Singh, who stood second with a timing of 2 minutes 29 seconds while Bikash Kumal finished third with 2 minutes 34 seconds.
Tenzing Namdol Rayan Gurung clinched gold medal in men’s 50 metre backstroke with a timing of 31.61 seconds. Anubhav Subba (32.42 seconds) and Gaurav Lama (33.98 seconds) finished second and third respectively.
The winners received awards from National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising as well as Nepal Olympic Council’s General Secretary Nilendra Raj Shrestha and Secretary Ramji Bahadur Shrestha.
The championship will conclude on Tuesday. Preparations are underway to hand over cash prizes to the swimmers who secured medals during the 13th South Asian Games.
