Defending champions Machhindra bags first point

By a Staff Reporter

Kathmandu – The defending champions Machhindra FC bagged their first point in the ongoing Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’ Division League 2023 playing a goalless draw against eight-time champions Manang Marshyangdi Club at ANFA Complex.

Machhindra dominated the game from the start, but Manang’s skipper as well as goalkeeper Deep Karki stopped them from converting any of their chances.

Player of the match Pujan Uperkoti failed to open an account in the very second minute of the match. Pujan’s powerful shot from outside the penalty box was well-blocked by Deep. Machhindra failed to go in front again in the 38th minute as Bimal Gharti Magar’s header from Rajin Dhimal’s free kick went a few inches away from the goalpost.

Both teams had several opportunities to score in the second half, but neither could convert. Bimal Gharti Magar and Saurav Limbu wasted the chance striking the ball off the post. Likewise, Omolaja Kareem’s long ranger hit the crossbar in the 90th minute, which denied Machhindra’s victory as well.

With this draw, Machhindra has earned their first point this season, while unbeaten Manang has collected five points from three games.
