Kathmandu – Debutant Church Boys United Football Club has ended the first leg of Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’ Division League 2023 standing fourth in the points table.

In their final game of the first leg, Church Boys put up a stunning performance, trashing the eight-time champions Manang Marshyangdi Club 3-0 at ANFA Complex on Sunday. Initially scheduled for Saturday at the Dasarath Stadium, the match was postponed to Sunday due to the downpour in the capital.

Despite a slow start, the Church Boys opened their account in the 41st minute when their skipper, Ananta Tamang, scored a fantastic header to give his side the lead following Sushil Shah’s cross.

Mausham Subba, the 21-year-old midfield, doubled the lead for the Church Boys nine minutes into the second half. The Indian forward, Ranjit Singh Pandre, set up a ball for Mausham, who fired the ball into the back of the net in the 54th minute.

In the 5th minute of stoppage time, Saimon Limbu scored his first goal of the league and the third for the Church Boys, confirming their victory. Kamal Shrestha sent in a well-timed cross from the right flank for Milan Rai, who set the ball for Saimon to calmly finish past Manang’s goalkeeper, Deep Karki.

This win moves the Church Boys to fourth place on the points table with 21 points from 13 matches, while the sixth defeat in a row slips Manang Marshyangdi Club to 10th position with 15 points from 13 matches.
