On Saturday night, Cadiz pulled off a shock 2-1 victory over Barcelona in La Liga. Trouble has already been mounting troubles for the Catalans in their domestic campaign.
The hosts took a shock lead in the 8th minute from a corner kick. Marc-Andre ter Stegen palmed the ball into the direction of Alvaro Gimenez. All he had to do was simply had to tap it into the net to make it 1-0. The goal seemed to enliven Barca, who for the remainder of the half were firmly in charge. Except for Martin Braithwaite’s close miss, the visitors could not score and went into the half-time break trailing.
Koeman rang the changes at half-time in an attempt to spark his team. Pedri replaced Oscar Mingueza and Ousmane Dembele came on for Philippe Coutinho. Messi played in Jordi Alba and his shot from a close angle took a fortuitous deflection.
Barca proceeded to dominate possession and drew level just prior to the hour mark. An unfortunate own goal from Pedro Alcala made it 1-1. But Cadiz took the lead again minutes later when a miscommunication between Clement Lenglet and Ter Stegen.
A throw-in left Alvaro Negredo alone for a simple tap-in to Barcelona’s open net. Barca poured down the stretch on the pressure and Messi saw two decent chances of going right to Ledesma. But Cadiz was up to the assignment and saw the match taking all three points and remain ahead of the La Liga Catalans.
Barca’s fourth defeat of the season left them seventh in the standings on 14 points after 10 games. Koeman’s side have failed to win their last four away matches.
With the team still in the mid-table, Koeman is under immense pressure to make a comeback. Leaders Atletico Madrid are 12 points ahead while Relegation zone is just 3 points far for the catalan club.
