Kathmandu – Api Power Church Boys United has regained the top spot in the ongoing Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’ Division League 2023, following a narrow 2-1 victory over defending champions Machhindra Football Club at ANFA Complex on Wednesday.
The match was closely contested, with Church Boys’ star forward Anjan Bista breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute. Anjan headed the ball home from Kamal Shrestha’s freekick to give his side a lead before going into the break.
Machhindra fought back in the second half, with Omolaja Nurain Karim scoring from the spot kick in the 64th minute. Machhindra received a penalty after Church Boys’ defender Franklin Kuete Talla fouled Andres Nia inside the box.
However, Church Boys regained their lead in the 71st minute, as Machhindra’s goalkeeper Pradip Bhandari dropped the ball into his own post while collecting Kamal Shrestha’s corner, gifting Church Boys all three points.
With their fourth win in a row, Church Boys went back to the top of the points table, with a three-point lead over Jawalakehl Youth Club, who are currently in second place. Church Boys have now accumulated 30 points from 16 matches, with 8 wins, 6 draws, and 2 losses. Meanwhile, Machhindra remained at fourth place with 24 points from 16 matches.
