Kathmandu – Nepal’s national football team forward and captain of Manang Marshyangdi Club, Anjan Bista, has bagged the best national player award 2078.

Sahara Club honoured Bista with the award during the opening ceremony of the Aaha Rara Gold Cup football tournament in Pokhara on Thursday. He received a letter of appreciation and a purse of Rs 35,000.

Sports journalist Himesh Ratna Bajracharya was also felicitated during the inauguration ceremony. Bajracharya has published a book featuring the details of all the 20 editions of Aaha Rara Gold Cup.

Since a couple of years, Sahara Club has been felicitating one footballer who has contributed to the national team. Anjan Bista has been a vital member of the national football team since the last 8 years. He was a member of the U-19 team of Nepal when they lifted the SAFF U-19 Championship title in 2016. He featured in the national team the same year when Nepal lifted the Bangabandhu Gold Cup in Bangladesh. He was also in the U-23 team of Nepal that won gold medal during the football event of South Asian Games 2016. He, however, was not included in the national team that won gold medal in the 13th SAG held in Nepal two years ago. So far, the 23-year-old Bista has scored 7 goals for the national team.

He made his debut in the national team in 2014 against a match against the Philippines.

Under his captaincy, MMC have secured second position in the ongoing Qatar Airways Martyrs Memorial A Division League with the completion of the ninth round of matches.
