Ananta and Nawayug score as Nepal marks a winning start

Kathamdnu – Defender Ananta Tamang and Forward Nawayug Shrestha scored one each as Nepal marked a winning start in the Prime Minister’s Three Nation Cup at Dasarath Stadium on Wednesday.

The hosts Nepal defeated visitors Laos 2-0 in an inaugural match of the tournament. Ananta headed the ball home from Nabin Lama’s corner in the 29th minute to give Nepal a lead. Ananta was later adjudged Player of the match.

Likewise, Nawayug scored a screamer from around 35 yards away to double Nepal’s lead in the 56th minute.

Nepal will next take on Bhutan on March 28. Bhutan will meet Laos on March 25 before taking on Nepal. The tournament will be played on a single round-robin basis and the top two teams will compete in the final on March 31st. The winners of the tournament will be rewarded with USD 5000 whereas the runners-up will purse USD 3000. Additionally, the Player of the Match will be rewarded with USD 250 and the Player of the tournament will receive USD 500. The prize money will be borne by the National Sports Council (NSC).
