Ampadu to stay at Sheffield; Gilmour to leave

Ethan Ampadu’s Sheffield United spell has been much more fruitful after a disastrous loan to RB Leipzig last season.

The Wales international making 16 appearances this season. As a result of Sheffield United’s major injury list, he has played in both defense and midfield, filling in whenever possible. As of late, he has also received high praise for his performances.

Unfortunately, in the midst of an absolutely and completely tragic season, the Blades remain mired, rooted to the bottom of the table. That has put some doubt on the feasibility of this loan, with mooted whispers of a recall.

Chelsea have not put a recall clause into the loan deal for the 20-year-old, and thus, even though chelsea wanted to, could not get the youngster back. This has also been confirmed by the Sheffield United manager, Chris Wilder.

Meanwhile, Billy Gilmour is one Chelsea youngster whose immediate future is a little less assured. Frank Lampard acknowledged this in his final interview as Chelsea manager that there is a chance that before the end of the January transfer window, the Scotland U-21 international might go out on loan.

According to the Telegraph, there is no shortage of competition in Gilmour, with a number of clubs in the Premier League tracking the situation. Although Lampard was previously responsible for making the final call, new coach Thomas Tuchel is now likely to have the final say in terms of the potential growth of Gilmour.
