Akhtar demands CAN’s investigation on Baliyo Nepal ties

Founder of Everest Premier League, Amir Akhtar has demanded an investigation with the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) on the involvement of a CAN member, captains, and players in the Baliyo Nepal campaign.

The campaign hosted a talk show on Tuesday on the topic ‘Will Nepal win the world cup by 2039?’, which seemed to be the crux of the matter as per Mr. Akhtar. Akhtar wrote an email to President Chatur Bahadur Chand other dignitaries of CAN seeking explanation on Chhumbi Lama – CAN board member and National Captain along with the current cricketers sharing the same platform of business.

He also questioned about CAN allowing direct associations of business between a player and board member. Akhtar said shall he not receive a reply within 48 hours he would forward the matter to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA).

Baliyo Nepal is a not-for-profit initiative funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and governed by an Independent Board of trusted members from civil society. The initiative in April organized the Baliyo Nepal Cup tournament in Lumbini Province. A total of 12 district teams of Lumbini Province took part in the tournament with Rupandehi 11 winning the title.
