One of the fiercest rivalries in world football is taking place on Sunday. Both Milan and Inter will fight for the top spot in the league.
Last week, Milan was eventually dethroned at the top of the Serie A standings by the Inter, having kept top spot for 21 match weeks. A shock defeat against in-form Lazio at humble Spezia and Inter’s clinical 3-1 victory meant that at an inopportune moment they eventually let first place slip.
Since the beginning of 2021, Pioli’s men have now lost three league games-one more than they did in the whole of 2020. Ten-man Red Star Belgrade managed to snatch a late equaliser in Milan’s last-32 Europa League first-leg tie.
Inter knew that the sudden loss of Milan on Saturday meant that last Sunday’s victory would put them top of the league. And Antonio Conte’s men dropped Lazio 3-1 at San Siro, extending their unbeaten streak to six and taking them to a half-century of points so far.
Stefano Pioli only has concerns over the availability of Brahim Diaz and midfield lynchpin Ismael Bennacer. While Conte has no fresh injury concerns.
