Bangladesh became a barrier in Nepal’s dream to lift the title of SAFF Women’s Championship at its home for the first time.
Bangladesh bagged its maiden trophy of the prestigious SAFF Women’s Championship by defeating Nepal 3-1 at Kathmandu on Monday. Krishna Rani Sarkar scored a brace and Shamsunnahar scored a piece in Bangladesh’s historic victory. Bangladesh trashed Bhutan to book its spot in the finals and Nepal sent off 5 times champions India to march on to the finals.
During the prize distribution ceremony of the championship, Dipa Rai, Indira Rai, and Punam Jarga Magar of Nepali National Women’s Football Team announced their retirement from international football. Punam marked her comeback to the national team after heart surgery. She underwent heart surgery a year ago on 21st September 2021 at Gangalal Hospital.
Magar was diagnosed with heart complications during Pre-Competition Medical Assessment (PCMA) ahead to Nepal and Bangladesh friendly series.
Moreover, Nepali team Head Coach Kumar Thapa announced that he has stepped down from his job amidst a final post-match conference. Thapa mentioned that it was not appropriate for him to continue the job as he failed to achieve his goal.
