Zimbabwe register first win in practice match against Nepal

Kathmandu – Half centuries from captain Tony Monyunga and Tadiwanashe Marumani helped Zimbabwe A secure a 6-wicket victory over hosts Nepal during their T20 practice match on Sunday.

Zimbabwe met the target of 182 runs for victory in 18.5 overs losing 4 wickets. Zimbabwe opener Marumani topscored 56 runs off 41 balls including 3 fours and 3 sixes. Captain Monyunga scored a quickfire 50 runs off 23 balls that included 7 sixes.

Another opener Innnocent Kaia contributed 47 runs off 30 balls to give a good start to Zmbabwe. Kaia and Marumani played a 73-run partnership for the first wicket. Nepal’s skipper Sandeep Lamichhane removed Kaia with an LBW to take the first wicket of Zimbabwe.

Marumani and captain Monyunga then played a 72-run partnership to effectively end the hopes of Nepal. Nepal’s Washir Ahmed took two wickets while Karan KC and Sandeep Lamichhane took a wicket each.

Earlier, Nepal were invited to bat first at the TU Cricket Ground after losing the toss and posted 181 runs in 20 overs losing 5 wickets. Unbeaten Aadil Ansari topscored 47 runs off 27 balls for Nepal. Opener Kushal Bhurtel was run out for 46 runs off 31 balls.

Zimbabwe’s John Masara, Brendon Mavhuta, Luke Jongwe and Brad Evans took 1 wicket each.

Zimbabwe will be playing 3 practice matches against Nepal. The second match is scheduled for Monday.
